Images from WW1 Queenstown Ireland (cont.)

The last post showed US destroyers that were posted to Queensland, Ireland during World War One. Here are some of the other real photo postcards that came in that small lot from eBay:

I have no indication who the sailors are; there were 2 images of the five buddies, both apparently taken the same day. One sailor, far left in the group shot, has rank insignia designating him as a Gun Pointer 1st Class. The guys were ashore with their baseball mitts, possibly playing another crew.


The written note on this one is "German Mines swept up outside of Queenstown." The German navy was using moored contact mines around England in 1917. These look like the ones described here.


This image is identified as "British Submarine" but offers no clue to the name.

Photos like these tickle my curiosity, so if anyone can provide more information about any image I post, I'd appreciate hearing it!
